U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) has announced the introduction of a draft bill that would extend the Employee Retention Credit that was introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support businesses that keep their employees. The credit was previously available for qualified wages paid before 1 January 2022 in general but was terminated retroactively from 1 October 2021 by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) unless the employer is a "recovery startup business".
