The Dominican Republic's Directorate General of Internal Revenue (DGII) has launched a public consultation on a draft general rule that would repeal exemptions from the tax on the issuance of checks and electronic transfers. The tax, which applies to both individuals and companies, is calculated at a rate of 1.5 per thousand (DOP 0.0015 per peso or 0.15%) on the value of checks of any nature paid by financial intermediation entities and on electronic transfers or payments made to third parties.
