The US Treasury Department has released a report of a study it conducted on US tax treaties. The announcement that accompanied the report states that the study of US tax treaties focused on the need to prevent third-country residents from inappropriately obtaining the benefits of US tax treaties, in particular by achieving inappropriate reductions in US withholding taxes.
