On 23 May 2014, the Spanish government approved for signature a draft income tax treaty and accompanying protocol with Qatar. The Qatari government approved for signature on 20 November 2013. The treaty is the first of its kind between the two countries and will enter into force after it is signed and the ratification instruments are exchanged.
