On February 25, the European Parliament closed the first reading on the European Commission's proposal for public country-by-country reporting. The move by the EP to close the first reading is largely seen as symbolic but will allow the proposal to go directly to the second reading, once the European Council has agreed on its negotiating position in regard to the proposal.
