On 9 January 2024, the Spanish Council of Ministers approved the signing of a new social security agreement with the United States. Negotiations for the agreement were concluded in May 2023. The agreement will enter into force after the ratification instruments are exchanged and, once in force and effective, will replace the 1986 social security agreement between the two countries.
