The U.S. IRS has announced the issuance of proposed regulations to provide guidance on the application of the new excise tax on repurchases of corporate stock made after 31 December 2022 and to provide guidance regarding reporting and payment of the new excise tax. The proposed regulations are scheduled to be officially published in the Federal Register on 12 April 2024.
