On 28 January 2019, officials from Hong Kong and Macau reportedly met to begin the third round of negotiations for an income tax treaty. The previous round was held in 2007. Any resulting treaty would be the first of its kind between the two jurisdictions and must be finalized, signed, and ratified to enter into force.
