On 5 January 2024, Burkina Faso's Council of Ministers reportedly approved a decree for the introduction of a mandatory 1% withholding tax on the remuneration of public officials and employees in the private sector. The withholding tax is to be levied for a period of 12 months to fund efforts to fight terrorism and strengthen national security.
